Adjusting women throughout pregnancy is one of the most exhilarating parts of my job! Healthier pregnancies and a well-balanced pelvis/nervous system are crucial to easier labor and delivery, and also a better transition for the baby. I use The Webster Technique to accomplish this balance. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis to determine sacial imbalance. Adjustments can be done in various techniques. We feel drop table adjustments are the most effective adjustment that reduces interference to the nerve system, facilitates balance in the pelvic and abdominal muscles and ligaments, which in turn reduces constraint to the woman’s uterus allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for birth.

Chiro care is not only safe throughout all stages of pregnancy, it is essential! Ask any pregnant woman and you will know there are significant posture changes through pregnancy. Their center of gravity changes – the baby places pressure on the spine and pelvis – toward the end of pregnancy, changes are even seen in walking. What you can’t see, but pregnant women definitely feel, are hormonal changes and chemical reactions occurring in their body and in their babies. All of these are controlled and coordinated through the nervous system.

Studies performed by ICPA show that adjustments can result in easier pregnancy, significantly decreased mean labor time, and assists new mother back to pre-partum health. In one study, women receiving chiropractic care through their first pregnancy had 24% shorter labor times than the group not receiving chiropractic. In addition, 84% of women report relief of back pain during pregnancy with chiropractic care. Because the sacroiliac joints of the pelvis function better, there is significantly less likelihood of back labor when receiving chiropractic care through pregnancy.
